Ultimate frisbee is a unique sport. Although it has elements related to other sports; in terms of rules and field set up, it is distinct in that it is self-officiated and non-contact. Spirit of the Game is huge in ultimate, it is the concept that players and teams are their own referees.
The basic premise of ultimate frisbee is there are two teams playing on a field with two end zones. In order to score, a team must receive a flying disc inside the end zone like in football. Players holding the disc must stop their running or walking and may only pivot with the disc. The game is fast paced and turn overs can occur often with switching of offense and defense. To learn more you can visit the official USAU site to read about the rules and regulations.
Often ultimate frisbee isn’t a sport seen in many high schools. Most colleges have club teams for men’s and women’s ultimate. Ultimate can even be played at a professional level. There are also plenty of places to recreationally play at most ages.
Not only is ultimate a great sport because of the Spirit of the Game, it also is a fast paced high intensity fun fest. Anyone can play, it keeps you active and you will make lifelong friends.
